Has Heidi Finally Weaned Henry Off His Binkie?

March 11, 2010

In many of their paparazzi family shots over the last two years Heidi Klum and Seal’s son Henry was always the big lanky toddler out of the brood sucking a pacifier. I know weaning our little ones off this favorite oral fixation  takes time, but seeing Henry suck his binky and appearing to be such a big boy really disturbed me.

Maybe it’s because he’s boy child, a double standard in the other direction I know, or most likely it bothered me because of a street style trend few years’ back. It involved black males, including grown boys and grown men of middle and high school ages, sucking pacifiers and bottles. They thought this was cool and hip l, I thought look screamed boys trying to go back to the womb in need of therapy.

As a fellow mom, I’m not judging Heidi for your choice. As parents we have to find ways to comfort our children as long as possible. But honestly, I feel better knowing that Henry no longer has that habit. What do you think? Am I overreacting? Is there anything wrong with letting our children suck pacifiers beyond the age of three? POSTED BY RIR

Do Tabloid Headlines Put Too Much Pressure On Losing Weight Quickly?

March 11, 2010

Every time a celebrity has a baby, the inevitable tabloid covers follow. First, there is the announcement type picture of mommy and baby and then second, comes the unescapable, large-fonted headline about how she lost an insane amount of weight in a small amount of time.

Kendra Wilkinson lost 20 pounds in 8 weeks proclaims on  recent issue of OK!  Nicole Richie was spotted in a bikini just two weeks after giving birth and had a flat stomach! Heidi Klum takes to the runway for Victoria’s Secret  just six weeks after having her fourth child!

Now, I like hearing about post-baby diets and workouts, but I don’t think the emphasis of these stories should be on weight loss fast. Instead, it should be about getting back in shape and returning to a normal, healthy routine.

All of these women have achieved something outstanding, but it takes a  personal trainer, personal chef, model genes, and basically, money and time that a normal woman probably doesn’t have. It also takes a magazine’s photoshop department.

When women (and their husbands) look at headlines and stories about post-baby weight loss, it can set up unrealistic expectations. Everyone loses at their own pace, some in a few weeks and months, while others can take a year or longer.

I for one, am sick of hearing about how quickly celebs have lost it. Just take a look at all these headlines:

Do you feel pressured by the focus on post-baby celebrity weight?

Style Alert: Faux-Hawk Fabulous

March 11, 2010

More over, Shiloh. There’s a new hair-do in town.

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown and her daughter, Phoenix Chi, 11, stepped out this week in mother-daughter faux-hawks. It seems Brown and her younger daughter, Angel Iris, 2, rocked a similar style last summer. Once upon a time, this punky style was considered edgy. Now it has become practially mainstream.

So who else has been recently caught looking faux-hawk fabulous?

None other than Willow Pinkett Smith, the 8-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. This winter, she sported a faux to one of the most formal events of the year– The Nobel Prize awards ceremony in Oslo, Norway.

What do you think? Will your kids be swapping pigtails for a faux-hawk this summer?

Scary Spice Resembling Her Kid Spices: Cute or Narcissistic?

March 11, 2010

Melanie Brown was recently seen sporting matching faux hawks with her two daughters.

Her youngest Angel Iris, age 2 was the first to rock the ‘do last summer. Then Angel, also the daughter of Eddie Murphy was joined by eleven-year old older sister Phoenix Chi and then last but not least dear ole’ Mom.

Some might view the multi-generational Spice coiffed trio as cute—maybe Melanie just wanted to play a public game of Mommy pied piper. Or more seriously, maybe she’s channeling her girls to help her turn back the hands of time. In extreme cases, experts call this trend— Melanie’s need to look like her daughters—a sign of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD).

According to Karyl McBride author of the book, Will I Ever Be Good Enough: Healing The Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers, “nearly 1.5 million women possess NPD which is the need to compete with their daughters daily in looks and often times body size. Many of these girls feel their moms are jealous of them as well.”

So what’s the verdict? Brown is a big girl who has conquered worldwide concert stages, Dancing With The Stars and even a Vegas strip show. Should she bow out of her girls’ child hair play? What do you think? POSTED BY RIR

Jessica Biel Looooves Justin Timberlake’s Mom

March 11, 2010

I have a while to go before either of my kids find life partners. (If they had to choose now, I’m guessing they’d both pick Elmo.) But when the time comes, I hope whoever they find likes me even half as much as Jessica Biel seems to like Justin Timberlake’s mom.

“Lynn is the most wonderful woman. I am so in love with her,” Biel told People at the New York premiere of Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro, a documentary following Biel and other celebrities as they climbed Africa’s highest peak in order to raise money for charity.

It seems the feeling is mutual. At the launch of Timberlake’s new fashion line last month. Harless told People that she considers Biel “one of us” and hinted that she found Biel’s dedication to getting fit for the climb inspiring.

“She had the treadmill to the highest level and was running with a 40-lb. backpack,” said Harless, describing Biel’s workouts. “I want to be her when I grow up.”

Awwwww. Good job, guys. Life is so much easier when everyone gets along.

Lisa Bonet’s Four-Time Mom Funky Style (PHOTOS)

March 11, 2010

Lisa Bonet may be off the acting radar these days, but then again raising four children (including three under the age of 10) at the youthful age of 43 just might keep you busy that way. These days however,  everyone knows it’s not just about raising your children, it’s also how you look doing it. And the one thing you can always count on, is Lisa looking impeccably stylish whether she’s out and about  with boyfriend and new Conan The Barbarian lead  Jason Momoa or not.

It really doesn’t matter whether she’s pregnant or pushing a stroller, the city sidewalks are Lisa’s own personal fashion runway.  And after all these years it’s good to know there’s still some Denise Huxtable in Lisa. Or, is it the other way around?  More pics after the jump. POSTED BY RIR

Name This Celebrity Baby!

March 11, 2010

Does this little tot look familiar? Can’t quite place the face? Just a few hints: Her parents met and married while working together on a long running comedy show. Oh, and her mom now helms and stars in an award-winning sitcom. And finally her mom served as a presenter at this year’s Oscars. This tot’s identity is finally revealed, with a second pic after the jump.

It’s Tina Fey’s 4-year old adorable daughter Alice Zenobia Richmond!

Alice’s dad is 30 Rock music composer and producer Jeff Richmond. Jeff also held the same music duties at Saturday Night Live, during Tina’s time on the show.

Just like Ms. Fey to keep it all in the family. I wonder what job Alice is going to take on when she grows up  and works with mom? POSTED BY RIR

Celeb Moms Say ‘I Love You’ With Tattoos

March 11, 2010

Kelly Ripa made a splash on The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this week when she revealed a new tattoo on her forearm–her husband’s last name, ‘Consuelos’.

But her choice to tattoo a love tribute to her husband and kids isn’t without precedent among the jet set. So what other stars have done it? Check it out…

Angelina Jolie’
s left arm used to bear a picture of a snake and the name of her ex-husband, Billy Bob Thornton. Now, it has been re-purposed to feature the latitude and longitude coordinates of the birthplaces of each of her six kids.

Victoria Beckham, mother of three, has two tattoos dedicated to her soccer star husband, David Beckham–including his initials on the inside of her wrist.

So far, no celebrity dads we know of have taken the plunge. How would you feel if your partner tattooed a tribute to you or your kids?
