‘Thank You, Mom’ Commericals Here to Stay

Perhaps you remember the “Thank You, Mom” commercials that ran during the Olympics last month? The spots by Proctor and Gamble drew quite a following. One commercial has received over 200,000 hits on You Tube. This one, which features a series of mothers singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to their young Olympic hopefuls, has likewise proven popular.

Proctor and Gamble know a good thing when they see it. So they have decided to extend the program. In case you missed the details, P&G offered to defray the travel costs for the mom of every Team USA athlete so they could watch their kids compete at the Vancouver games. They have extended the same offer to moms of Team USA athletes at the Paralympic games this month. Moreover, they have established a website, thankyoumom.com, and are offering to donate a dollar to Team USA for every mom who is thanked. Their goal: Thank every mom in America by Mother’s day.

Shameless, really–commercializing us moms like that. Of course, I cried like a baby each and every time I saw one of their commercials run. Did they get to you, too?
