Celebrity Authors: The Peete Family Pen Two Books About Autism

Last month, Famecrawler posted an interview with Holly Robinson Peete that talked in part about how her family coped with son R.J.’s autism. Now two books about the Peete family’s experiences  are slated to hit stores this month.

Last week, Holly Robinson Peete released My Brother Charlie, a childrens book she co-wrote with her daughter, Ryan. The fictional story, aimed at children aged 6-10, is narrated from the point of view of a younger sister whose older brother is autistic.

Next week, Rodney Peete’s memoir Not My Boy! A Dad’s Journey with Autism joins My Brother Charlie in bookstores. In it, the former NFL star gives an account of his personal struggles in coming to terms with his son’s condition, focusing particularly on the difficulty some fathers have in accepting a diagnosis of autism in their sons.

Have you read either of the Peete books? What other memoirs about autism can you recommend?
