Maggie Gyllenhaal Dishes On Being A Working Mom

March 11, 2010

Even if she didn’t take home a statue for her role as a single mother in Crazy Heart, real-life mom Maggie Gyllenhaal can still take stock in the fact that she looked absolutely stunning at this past Sunday’s Oscars.

Like most moms, she had troubled returning to work right after her daughter Ramona was born in 2006. Since that time Maggie has appeared in Dark Night and Away We Go. The two films both shot in a matter of days and she’s  admitted her focus was still on her baby girl the whole time she was on set.  When she decided to take the role in Crazy Heart, she was able to think more of herself and her needs.

“My daughter was almost two when I made this movie, and I was having that feeling that parents must have intermittently throughout their children’s lives. I had it for the first time, like I had been focused almost completely on my daughter, on being a mother, and I had this surge of a feeling that I needed to do something for me,” she tells the Huffington Post. “I was also a woman and an actress and not just a mother. I worked.”

We’re sure Ramona will love mom’s next role! Maggie will be starring in the family flick Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, which is set for release later this year.

Where’s Nahla’s Poppa Gabriel?

March 11, 2010

The web and blogosphere has been all abuzz with Halle Berry and Nahla sightings in recent days.

The gorgeous mom and daughter duo have had the L.A. area covered. They’ve been out to lunch at Cravings in Westwood and out for a jaunt at Coldwater Canyon’s playground in Beverly Hills. But all that girl power on display just left me wondering where’s Gabriel Aubry?

We all know Halle’s harried history with past boyfriends and husbands, so I’m just hoping all is well. But, because Berry has recently declared how profoundly motherhood has changed her life, I’m sure she’s the one opting for more downtime to be at home with Nahla. I mean lucky for her she certainly can afford it, right?

But judging from the recent paparazzi shots I’d say Gabriel and Nahla are overdue for some father daughter bonding time. Do dads still sometimes get the raw deal in quality time with their kids? In your earliest memories, which parent do you remember spending more time with? POSTED BY RIR

What’s in the Stars for These Star Babies?

March 11, 2010
Fess up — you read your horoscope. We know you do, you’re so busted. And according to our research, there are a few very influential little’uns who should, too. So listen up, Shiloh et al!

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born May 27, 2006. She’s a Gemini. “You adore fashion and are impeccably dressed,” according to one website. (Well, duh.) “Like many Gemini natives, May 27 people never quite grow up,” according to another. “They remain in touch with that magical land of childhood and take spiritual refuge in it when the realities of life grow too hard. May 27 people want to be noticed. They have the feeling — generally correct — that they are not ordinary individuals but someone special. They will usually find a way to shine, since anything else is unbearable for their ego.”

So, what’s in store for Shiloh’s year ahead?

“2010 will be a Number Eight year for you.” (Does this mean she’ll acquire 8 more siblings?) “Ruled by Saturn, this is a year of power and accomplishment. Actively seeking to expand, taking educated risks, and moving forward are highlighted. This is a year of opportunity, particularly in the material and business world, and opportunities need to be seized. This is a problem-solving year in which you can expect real, tangible results. Advice — take action, plan ahead, seize opportunities.”
Matthew McConaghey and Camila Alves’s little girl, Vida Alves McConaughey, was born on January 3, 2010. She’s a Capricorn.
According to Cafe Astrology, she is “playful, clever, and has a fabulous sense of humor. Youthful all of her life, while she respects age and seniority, she doesn’t always accept that she is are aging!”
Well, she better start! She’s already pushing three months old!
“Capricorn children usually seem to be miniature adults who are serious and a bit world-weary. Although smart, they may lag behind other children developmentally.” (Oops! Let’s hope not!) “They may have a fear of trying particular skills because they are afraid to fail. For them to succeed, parents must be gentle and supportive. As he or she grows, so grows the confidence. They have leadership skills that can be helpful in adjusting to this phase of their development.”
“2010 is a Number Seven year for you. Ruled by Neptune. This is a year of preparation, chance, and refinement. It is not a time of dramatic changes. Instead, it’s a year when reflection on the past is helpful, and when refinements to your life path should be made. It’s a good year to study and analyze. Unexpected twists to your life story and “chance” meetings are probable. Advice — take stock of your life in order to prepare for more exciting years to come, examine the past and plan for the future, get in touch with your deepest needs and uncover your personal power, don’t strain yourself or actively try to expand.”
For Suri Cruise, born April 18, 2006: “Anyone who has ever raised an Aries child knows that these determined little overachievers need a firm hand to keep them from getting out of line. They are extremely self-possessed and prone to demanding their own way. They may be especially troublesome during their teen years. When Aries young people rebel, they generally have a good idea of what they’re rebelling against.”

Spring Style Alert: Pretty in White

March 11, 2010

Well, spring has sprung here in New York. The temperatures have been hovering in the upper 50s all week, and after the winter we’ve had, it feels downright balmy. So how did some celebrity moms celebrate? By breaking out the white dresses, of course.

Check out the Real House Housewives of New York Countess Luann de Lesseps and Kelly Killoren Bensimon, both sporting white on the red carpet at Bravo’s 2010 Upfront Party at Skylight Studio in New York City.

Moments later, they were joined by style guru Sarah Jessica Parker, who donned a white blazer over flesh-toned dress.

And all the way on the other side of the world, Gwyneth Paltrow also went nude–well, nude-toned–wearing a body-skimming bias cut beaded gown to the Laureus World Sports Awards in Abu Dhabi.

So what do you think? Thumbs up or down on white dresses for this spring?

What Doesn’t Brooke Burke Do?

March 11, 2010

I don’t want to alarm anyone, but I am pretty sure Brooke Burke is planning to take over the world.

The mom of four and former Dancing With the Stars champion is slated to take over co-hosting duties when the show returns on March 22. This in addition to serving as CEO of ModernMom.com, penning an active mommy blog, appearing as the mommy correspondent on The Doctors, and pitching an array of products, including her own line, babooshbaby.

I’m tired just typing about it.

Yet Brooke Burke isn’t the only Hollywood mom moonlighting as a multi-tasker. Check out these other momtrepreneur moms:

Tori Spelling:
Mother of two; star, creator and co-producer of Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, designer behind the Maven jewelry line for adults and Little Maven apparel for children, author of memoirs sTORItelling and Mommywood and the upcoming kid’s book Presenting Tallulah (due out this fall).

Elisabeth Hasselbeck:
Mother of three; co-host of The View; co-host of upcoming skating competition Thin Ice; active twitterer; author of The G Free Diet: A Gluten Free Survival Guide; campaigned actively for both George W. Bush and Sarah Palin.

Gwyneth Paltrow: Mother of two; Academy Award winning actress and star of upcoming Iron Man 2; author of lifestyle newsletter GOOP; pitchwoman for Tod’s and Estee Lauder; co-star of Spain…On the Road Again with Mario Batali; ambassador for Save the Children; serves on the Board of the Robin Hood Foundation.

What other Hollywood moms seem to do it all?

Kate Gosselin’s New Hairdo! What’s Her Best Look?

March 11, 2010

Kate Gosselin’s changed her hair again!  The former mulleted mommy, whose style launched a thousand internet memes, surprised everyone when she got blonde extensions. Now, in preparation for her upcoming Dancing With the Stars appearance, she’s gone honey blonde and bobbed during  a  “marathon 7-hour hair appointment.”

I think this style suits her great. It’s sophisticated and sexy! According to reports though, this might not be the final look. She’s said to be getting new extensions next week.

Which hairstyle do you think is best?

Lisa Leslie’s Baby Bump: The Perfect Halloween Costume

March 11, 2010

I know it’s the wrong season, but it’s too bad that Lisa Leslie’s belly bump is so prominent this winter instead of next fall. That couldn’t be helped it was nature’s call. Her second son, already pre-named Michael Joseph Lockwood Jr. is due in May. But it’s just too adorable to see the biggest professional female basketball player with the most perfect basketball-shaped baby bump.

Lisa could have solved the pregnant mom Halloween costume dilemma in one fell swoop. Couldn’t you see her at a party? Lisa could be the backboard and hoop; her baby bump, would be the basketball. Sure, other expectant moms may have thought of the idea and worn the costume before her. But the simple fact that Lisa Leslie, herself, was wearing it plus the baby bump as visual aid? Why, that concept could provide irony for days. But it’s not too late with a little proper planning; she could always raincheck the idea for her next pregnancy. POSTED BY RIR

What Do You Do Mom & Dad? Celebs Take Their Kids To Work

March 11, 2010

Kids sometimes have a hard time understanding where mom or dad is all day, so showing them is a great way to explain. It also, in the vein of Take Your Child To Work Day, lets them see your accomplishments, know that they could do the same when it comes to their future career, and depending on how old they are, can teach them responsibility. Plus, it’s a great way to spend some extra time with them. I remember going to my dad’s office and being pretty darn fascinated by the fax machine and just happy to see him before 6pm.

Rapper, actor, and restaurant owner Ludacris says of his daughter Karma, “She rolls with me. Whenever I’m at the restaurant, she’s there trying to help out the servers and she gets paid for that. And whenever I’m acting, she’ll come on set and root me on. I’ll bring her to some of my shows — the clean ones I do at festivals where there are other kids. She’s my road dog and she loves it.”

Here’s a look at some other lucky kids who have gotten to see their parents in action:

Sparrow Midnight was on hand with dad Joel Madden to help him re-record We Are The World to benefit Haiti.  It was history re-creating itself-Grandpa Lionel Richie sang in the original.

Erme and Max share the limelight on stage with mom and dad. Could a brother-sister singing act be in the future?

Salma Hayeck’s little girl Valentina gets a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes on the set of Grown Ups. Let’s hope she doesn’t give the press any spoilers.

Tori and Dean take little ones Liam and Stella to the launch of mom’s baby line Little Maven. We bet we know what they’re wearing.

Is Rebecca Gayheart Daughter’s Name Too Plain Jane? (POLL)

March 11, 2010

In a celebrity baby world filled with Apples and Kal-Els Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart, are here to remind us all that sometimes simpler is better.

The couple gave their baby girl the name Billie Beatrice on Wednesday reports PEOPLE. Billie Dane was born to the couple on March 3rd in Los Angeles. A rep for the Danes says that “Mother, father and daughter are doing great.”

It’s seems preposterous to ask if Baby Dane’s name is not snazzy enough, especially considering that most names have meanings. Even the plain Janes of the world can take solace in the fact that the name Jane, is of Hebrew origin and means, ‘God is gracious.’

But because celebrities are in that other stratosphere of the universe—the stars— I guess some of them feel they have to take their children’s monikers out there too.

So tell us the truth, is Rebecca and Eric’s daughter name celebrity baby worthy? POSTED BY RIR
